Easy Tips for Winterizing Your Skincare Routine

Easy Tips for Winterizing Your Skincare Routine

As the weather cools down and the days get shorter, we change a lot of things: our routines (thanks, daylight savings), our wardrobe (hello, scarves) and our diet (we missed you, butternut squash). With all these transitions, many people forget about one important one—your skincare routine. We interviewed our esthetician Maria to find out why it’s important to change up your skincare routine and products for winter. Read on for her advice!

HYDRATE

Most people know that winter air is very dry, and dry skin gets easily dehydrated. Unfortunately, drinking more water isn’t the fix—only 3% of the water you drink goes to your skin! So it’s important to add a hydrating treatment to your skin, like Aveda’s Hydrating Treatment Lotion, which instantly boosts skin’s moisture.

EXFOLIATE

Another thing people should do in wintertime is exfoliate. Maria says she often has guests complain that their moisturizer isn’t working, and she notices that it is just sitting on top of dead skin cells, not being absorbed into the skin at all. For people without sensitive skin, she recommends scrubbing the face once a week with Aveda’s Botanical Kinetics Radiant Skin Refiner—it gets rid of all the dead skin cells so that the products you use can actually penetrate the skin and do their job!

SUNSCREEN

You know how important sunscreen is everyday, and the winter is no exception. In fact, snow reflects 80% of UV radiation, so it’s actually easier to get sunburnt in the snow. Maria recommends Aveda’s Daily Light Guard Defense Fluid with a SPF of 30 for everyday use.

FACIALS

Facials are good any time of year, but especially during winter when skin could use a little more TLC. At R salon, our estheticians can customize facials for any need—so if your skin is dry, they can do a super hydrating Tulasara facial, or they could do an exfoliation peel that leaves skin glowing and refreshed.
